SHQ - About Us

We are South Hampshire Quest and have about thirty-five members at the moment. Our youngest member is 32 and our oldest member is 56 years young. We do believe that making friends is not always age-related and although we don't mind the occasional pint in the pub with our parents, we wouldn't want to go clubbing with them every weekend (and vice versa regarding our kids Tongue out).

What a week, what an adventure.. When your car ever breaks down on the French motor way in the middle of the night (or whatever time for that matter) the words you need in your vocabulary (combined with a cell phone calling 112) are 'Gendarmerie' 'S'il vous plait' 'Je voudrai' 'depaneur' - they will volcano you with a waterfall of other French (as they suspect you understand them clearly as you know so many French words) and if all goes to plan they will send someone to take you back to safety (in about just under 5 hours).  Yeah, it was also busy in NaFoF Land and we are expecting it to get even busier!

Newbies most welcome too - it's an easy way to get to know a lot of our members in one go! You can just turn up or you can send me a message through the website and we'll send you some contact details, so you don't have to walk into Trago Lounge on your own (we'll come and collect you!).

A day at the races! Do you fancy winning enough money to buy your house or even the next pint! This weekend offers you the opportunity to do both (especially as I haven't been out for ages and could do with some alcoholic infusion!..no hint!). This Satuday is a horse racing evening at Salisbury. The races start at 6pm and will probably be finished about 9pm.

Evening all. The understudy has been let out of his cage once more, to regale you tales of fun and frolics in the world of NAFOF.

Last Wednesday we tagged along with Hannah to watch 'Shrek Forever After' in glorious 3D. Bet it was fabulous. You just cant go wrong with a film about talking donkey's, talking cat's and a bald green ogre. Marvellous.

At the weekend, Paul guided us up some trees to spend some quality time with some Llamas at the 'Larmer Tree Festival' near Salisbury. Being allergic to wool I just couldnt take the risk, but apparently there were also a few musicians, comedians and other artists to distract you, if you're not the humble Llama's number one fan.

As I am aware that this could be a potentially expensive weekend with the Cowes Fireworks on Friday and the Chilli Fiesta on Sunday, I've looked around for a place that has a pleasant atmosphere and is good value for money.

A restaurant that has been on the list for a while, and comes highly recommended by Rich, is Taps, down at Shamrock Quay which has candelight dining inside and outside tables if the weather is good.  And, for those of you that have the Gourmet Society Dining Cards, the deal is buy one meal, get one free.

Aloha Sweet Peas & Potatoes! Yes, today is Terrific Tuesday, just to get you in the mood for next week when Original Mike will take over this blog as yours truly is on the other side of the water. Last week we saw Holland beat Uruguay (review here) and Holland lose from Spain in the World Cup Final.. There is no real review of the latter, as it was painful to watch (and to play!). How many yellow cards were there?? Thank you all so much for your support - I'm off to Belgium to lick my wounds in the arms of the rest of my family.
