In 1879, people flocked to Blackpool to see the illuminations which consisted of a whole 6 lights. People had never seen anything like this before, as they were used to gaslight and travelled from all over the place to see this new phenomenon named as “Artifical Sunshine”. Today there are literally thousands of illuminations from 31 August to 4 November and we are off to Blackpool to catch the last rays of the Artificial Sunshine and also to celebrate Ian and Vanessa’s birthdays.

The SeaCity Museum opens to the public at 1.30 pm on Tuesday 10 April and I am going along to see it's opening and have a look around the exhibition. If you would like to join me, meet me at the museum entrance at 1.15 pm.

Grab the safety bar and hold on tight because we're off to Chessington to experience all the fab rides! If your like me and don't really "do" rides Chessington's are a little more sedate in comparison to Thorpe Park/Alton Towers. There are 9 themed lands where you will find rides including "The Vampire", "Rameses Revenge," "Bubbleworks", and "Dragon Falls". We will aim to get there for just after 10am when the park open's and spend all day there before coming home about 5pm. The tickets are £30 on their own website but we should be able to get them for around £20. Please let me know you are interested in coming by the 29th February 2012 so we can organise tickets/cars etc.

Fancy a spring day out? Then why not join Vanessa and I at Marwell Wildlife park near Winchester. Marwell is a conservation charity which manages and restores threatened and endangered species, so how about coming to see the amazing work they do with animals including giraffes, tigers, hippos and even meerkats! I can't guarantee talking meerkats plugging a certain website but I am pretty sure of an interesting day out! Entrance costs £12.72 (further donation optional) so if we can all get our own tickets, we can then all arrange to meet at the entrance to Marwell at 10.30am. Please let me know you are coming by Friday 9th March 2012 so we can look out for you!

The Ladies Lay-abouts have decided to have one more goodbye to summer event which will take place tomorrow Tuesday the 4th of October (but only when it doesn't rain!). We will be meeting on the train to Bournemouth departing Southampton Central at 11.45am, as some of us are coming in on trains from different stations. Bring a towel, book and picnic as we are hoping to do our last of summer day's hurray on the beach! Feel free to join us!

I know it may seem a long way off, and with summer allegedly returning this week (!), but how about joining us for an afternoon in Winchester soaking up the Christmas spirit? Grab your thermals and join us for some ice skating in the beautiful grounds of Winchester Cathedral complete with its Christmas market. The plan is to get the train to Winchester for about 1pm, go ice skating at 2pm (for those who wish too) and then we can have a wander round Winchester, followed by an early dinner! Ice skating costs about £9 (lasting for approx 1hr) but if there are 10 or more of us we can get a discount. Please let me know if you are interested in coming ice skating by the 15th October 2011 so I can book the tickets.

Another much missed Club favourite was the Gurkha Kitchen which is sadly no more. However, I have found a Gurkha Chef in Winchester which looks quite nice so we thought we would have foray outside of Southampton for a change. It is very near the train station, so if you don't want to drive, you could hop on a train to this one.

How about an afternoon at Gunwharf Quays? Vanessa and I would like you join us there, where we are planning to go up the Spinnaker Tower, have a mooch around the shops, walk along the walls of old Portsmouth, and then have dinner there. We are planning to meet at the entrance to Southampton Central train station (costa coffee side) at 12:50pm to get the 13:05pm train to Gunwharf Quays, returning at approx 7pm. Please let me know if you are coming by Saturday 3rd September, it would be great to see you there!

This isn't probably the best day to advertise a day at the beach (it's raining as I type!) but hey. Let's do it anyway.
Fresh warm donuts, penny arcades, pebbles, rock, flipflops, The Lanes, shopping, food........ Brighton.
It's been a long hard summer for some so Debbie and I thought we'd have a little road trip to Brighton to brighton up the days.
Please email me if you fancy coming along. There is no agenda to the day but we'll leave Southampton about 10 and leave Brighton about .... well, whenever we're ready (but we're aiming for about 7)
