Sunday Lunch @ the Old Cemetery
We're off for some Sunday Lunch at the Bellmoor and afterwards we will be meeting up with Friends of Southampton Old Cemetery at the Old Cemetery itself for a Titanic Grave Walk & Talk.
Background History
At 11.40pm on the 14th April 1912 R.M.S. Titanic struck an iceberg near Newfoundland in the North Atlantic.
At 12.20am on the 15th April the crew was given the order to send away women and children in the ship’s lifeboats.
Titanic sank at 2.20am on the 15th April.
Of the 1523 people that lost their lives, 549 came from Southampton. The disaster, which made headlines across the world, had a devastating effect on the people of Southampton.
In April 2007 Southampton commemorated the 95th anniversary of the sinking of R.M.S. Titanic with a series of events held across the city and even more successful events, exhibitions and activities took place in 2008. More events will be taking place in April 2009 and beyond leading up to the 100th anniversary in 2012.
