Another Great British Experience for the calendar - the Garlic Festival will take place at the Isle of Wight and we're planning on getting smelly! Of course there will be garlic beer\, garlic fudge and garlic ice cream.. But that's not all - there will be lots of other foods\, drinks and an impressive load of entertainment. Previous guests were Mungo Jerry\, The Foundations\, Dr &\; the Medics\, The Wurzels\, Chaz n Dave and many others. There will be a robot\, sheep dog trials\, magic shows\, clowns and stilt walkers.

If anyone has ever fancied a bash at kayaking then here's your chance. Two hour taster sessions are run by 'Liquid Logistics' in the New Forest. Starting at Bucklers Hard and depending on the tides of the day\, We will head either to Beaulieu or in the direction of the sea.
The kayaks are stable touring kayaks\, full instruction is given and the group escorted by enthusiastic and knowledgeable 'People of the Forest'. Waterproofs are provided as are changing facilities and there is even a hot shower (if required).
The routes run along a really beautiful part of the river passing through ancient woodlands/nature reserve and there are plenty of nice pubs in the area to have a well-earned drink afterwards.

Friday 6 August is the last day of sailing of Cowes Week and traditionally culminates in a lovely firework display.
The idea is to go over on the ferry either lunchtime or early evening and have a picnic on the beach. \; For those that do want to go earlier\, there are plenty of beer tents\, shops and cafes.
I don't have timings yet\, but last year there was a display by the Red Arrows at 6 pm and the fireworks were around 8 pm.

As I am aware that this could be a potentially expensive weekend with the Cowes Fireworks on Friday and the Chilli Fiesta on Sunday\, I've looked around for a place that has a pleasant atmosphere and is good value for money.

And once again this year The London Hotel and Countess Mountbatten Hospice Charity are inviting us to come along to The Pink Ball in its 2nd year and well worth it! This year the venue is NV in Southampton and once again you can show off your penguin suit or ball gown (your choice!). The entertainment will be in true London Hotel Style\, you \;will enjoy a very nice 3 course meal and you could spend some money on the raffle.
It was a great night out last year (see last years event gallery for the pictures) and we are definitely going again!
